Shelly/Elizabeth - would you say that the workforce development challenges you outlined cuts across place in career (new professional through mid/later career) AND industries? Thinking about the Mellon grant that the American Historical Association sought to retrain the excess History Ph.D.s produced recently to retrain them for other careers.


In July I facilitated a workshop for Michigan Community College Presidents during the Michigan Community College Association's annual retreat.

The 24 Presidents with whom I worked were keenly aware of the need to match their educational offerings with marketplace needs, and they are putting a fair amount of effort into developing new programs and refining existing offerings.

Given that community colleges are similar to associations in many ways (though they are encumbered by some political constraints), do you think there could be opportunities for community colleges and associations to work fruitfully together?
